Filmmaking for Kids
Writing, directing, editing, and acting for young movie-makers.
Description
Our filmmakers learn to write, shoot, direct, act, and edit in their own short films and skits in this in-person class. Each week, students will either be writing a new movie, filming one, or editing the previous one. We will cycle through the roles of writer, director, cinematographer, actor, and editor so every kid gets a chance to do every job. - We'll start with the science of storytelling, and how to construct a strong script with a beginning, middle, and end, and the conflict that runs throughout. - Students will learn how to use the camera, and choose the right angles and shots to meet their vision. - We'll need actors! The kids will have multiple opportunities to act in the films, and learn how to "act for the camera," including matching shots and finding their mark. - Lastly, the students will edit their mini movies, learning how to pick "takes" and adjust the tempo of the film using well-timed cuts. The semester will culminate in a screening of our films for family members and friends on the final class. This class is geared toward kids age 10-14. Any child who can work within the general age level of the group is welcome to join. Caroline Gordon-Elliott is an experienced filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor who has taught adults and kids in New York and Los Angeles. Her love for the craft of filmmaking and acting and years of experience in education show through her ability to inspire and nurture young talent. Join any 5 classes with this booking.
